19th CORNET Call Open

CORNET is a network of ministries and funding agencies in Europe which are owners or managers of national and regional funding programmes for collective research between Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs), their associations and Research and Technology Organisations (RTOs) across Europe. Against the background of growing competition in global markets, CORNET supports SMEs in their transnational innovation activities, helps them to acquire technological know-how, extend their networks across Europe and bridge the gap between research and innovation.
Project consortia led by organisations like associations, clusters, federations or ad hoc groupings of industrial enterprises - especially SMEs - from at least 2 different CORNET countries are invited to submit proposals for joint collective research projects.
Submission closure: 27 March 2015, midday (12 pm)    ----     Submission per e-mail to:

The Nano Dimension in Science Fiction

The Nano Dimension in Science Fiction - NANORA releases a brochure that’s out of the ordinary
The new NANORA publication “Nanotech Ideas in Science-Fiction Literature” fosters new ways of thinking that are a necessary precondition for true innovation.
With the start of the new year NANORA has fulfilled a promise given to members of the EU High Level Group on Nanosciences, Nanotechnology and Advanced Materials at a networking lunch on 15 October 2014: the network has issued a brochure that provides a completely new source of inspiration for nanotech innovation.

2014 Third SIINN Call

The third joint transnational call of the ERA-NET SIINN (Safe Implementation of Innovative Nanoscience and Nanotechnology) is open for the submission of innovative transnational research proposals focused on manufactured nanomaterials (MNMs) in the four topics listed below:
  •     Exposure assessment
  •     Toxicity mechanisms
  •     Effects of MNMs on human health
  •     Environmental impacts of MNMs
Submission deadline is 16/01/2015, 12:00 am CET, 07:00 am Washington D. C. Time

NANORA will be present at the 2nd International Workshop on Metallic Nano-Objects

The University Lille 1 will host the Second International Workshop on Metallic Nano-Objects (MNO 2014) from 13th to 14th November 2014.
It aims to provide an overview on recent advances and challenges in the development of nano-objects and their applications in materials science. Academic and industrial scientists, technologists and students from various national and international universities, institutes or companies are expected to participate to the workshop.

“NanoART” - The nRai® Nano Imagery Contest

The contest supports the atmosphere of discovery and wonder that nanoscience and nanotechnology research represents. The first objective of this competition is for participants to have fun. The second objective is to promote the public interest and acceptance of nanos: people new to the subject really begin to understand it when they see compelling pictures.
Many of the illustrations, models and nanoscopic images produced in researching nanoscale science are very artistic in nature, transcending basic illustration.
For nRai® and the Nanosciences Foundation, this contest is important to reward the hard work of non-Faculty researchers.

New product launch following commercial license from CCAN and trans-regional cooperation

CCAN member company Innovative Polymer Compounds – IPC, the Irish medical polymer compounder based in Kilbeggan, Co. Offaly has launched a new product range at this year’s Medtech Europe trade show in Germany on June 5th. The PEBASlide™ product line is a direct result of a technology license recently signed with CCAN  (pronounced "see-can") – the Collaborative Centre for Applied Nanotechnology.  The licensed technology allows IPC to enhance the properties of PEBAX, a widely used polymer in the medical device industry.

Swiss EMPA finds fewer nano-particles released from nano-silver coatings compared to regular silver coatings

A team at the “Technology and Society” division at EMPA, the Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science and Technology, has investigated the behavior of silver coatings in the washing machine. They discovered that textiles with nano-coatings release fewer nano-particles into the washing water than those with normal coatings. As a result, the researchers maintain that nano-textiles should not be subjected to stricter regulation than textiles with conventional silver-coatings, and this is relevant for current discussions concerning possible special regulations for nano-silver.
